Mrs Amugu née Abena Ekobena Appoline Marie

Vice – Chairperson of the Electoral Board

She was born on 21 November 1958 in Yaoundé and hails from the Centre region.

Mrs Amugu née Abena Ekobena Appoline Marie holds a CAPEPS (Certificat d’Aptitude au Professeur d’Education Physique et Sportive) obtained from the National Institute of Youths and Sports (INJS), Yaounde in 1983. She also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma and Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (equivalent of a Master’s Degree) in Sociology of Education, obtained in 1989 and 1990 respectively.

Professionally, Mrs. Amugu was a Physical Education and Sports Teacher at Lycée Général Leclerc in Yaoundé, then Head of Department, and finally Head of Division at the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS).

She had previously been Inspector General of Pedagogy, also within the central services of this ministry. At the same time, as a sociologist, she participated in the implementation of the Chad/Cameroon pipeline project as a member of the Cameroonian socio-economic team.

Distinguished and recognised for her courage, leadership, determination and exceptional commitment to the nation, the Vice-Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Mrs Amugu, née Abena Ekobena Appoline Marie, married and mother of six children, was awarded the medal of ‘Officer of the National Order of Valour’ by the President of the Republic.

In 2017, by decree of the President of the Republic, she was appointed member and then Vice-Chairperson of the Electoral Board. She took the following oath before the Supreme Court sitting as the Constitutional Council, and in 2022 before the Constitutional Council: “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling within the purview of Elections Cameroon.”
