Born on 21 November 1965 in Yaoundé, head of a large family and father of four children, Mr Nanga Charles is a prominent figure in Cameroonian public life, with a rich and diverse career in public administration, politics and education.
He began his studies at the Petite École Française de Moscou in 1968 in the nursery school, and then attended primary school as his parents were posted to the Ecole Primaire de la Retraite in Yaoundé, Ecole Urbaine Joss in Douala, Mission Catholique d’Akonolinga, Ecole Publique d’Obeck in Mbalmayo and Ecole Publique de Centre of Nkondjock, where he obtained his CEPE in 1976. He entered form one at the Government Secondary School in the same town before moving to Lycée du Manengouba in Nkongsamba and CES in Soa, where he passed his BEPC in 1980. He completed his secondary education by obtaining the Baccalauréat A4 with Spanish as option at the Lycée Mixte de Sangmélima in 1983, after obtaining his Probatoire diploma at the Lycée Bilingue de Yaoundé in 1982.
In terms of higher education, Mr Nanga Charles obtained a degree in public law in 1986 from the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences at the University at Ngoa Ekelle, and in 1987, he was admitted to ENAM, from where he graduated in 1989, and was immediately recruited into the civil service as a civil administrator.
Top of his class in the international cycle in 1998, Mr Nanga Charles graduated from ENA in Paris, France, in 2000. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, obtained in the same year.
Mr Nanga Charles has held various positions in the civil service, including:
• Second Assistant SDO of Yagoua (1991-1993);
• First Assistant SDO, at Douala (1993-1995);
• Sub-Divisional Officer of Bot-Makak Sub-division (1995-1998)
• Deputy Director of Elections at MINAT (2000-2002)
• Head of the Legal Affairs Division at MINEDUB (2006-2024).
• Inspector General in MINEDUB (2006-2024).
On the political front, Mr Nanga Charles has also been elected on several occasions as Municipal councillor of Niete Council (2013-2020) and Regional councillor for the South and Delegate of Division for the Ocean Division (2020-2024).
Finally, in terms of community involvement, the new member of the Electoral Board was president of the Cameroonian association of former students of ENA France for ten years, and president of ENA Africa between 2002 and 2012. Alongside these activities, he was a member of ALUMNI IVPA/USA/Cameroon.
Mr Nanga Charles also has academic experience, having taught at ENAM from 2002 to 2013, and was responsible for monitoring the education of civil administrators from 2013 to 2025, as Head of the General Administration Section. He is an associate lecturer at the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC).
In recognition of his services to the nation, Mr Nanga Charles has received several honours, including:
• Knight of the French Order of Academic Palms;
• Knight of the National Order of Valour;
• Officer of the National Order of Valour;
• Commander of the National Order of Valour;
• Grand Officer of the National Order of Valour.
A man of many talents, he was sworn in before the Constitutional Council on 17 February 2025 following his appointment on 20 December 2024 by decree of the President of the Republic as a member of the ELECAM Electoral Board.
