On 27 and 28 July 2026, the Mont Fébé Hotel in Yaoundé hosted a training session organised by Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), in partnership with UN Women and other institutional partners, aimed at women, youths, people with disabilities, internally displaced persons and indigenous communities.

This initiative forms part of efforts to promote inclusive civic participation and strengthen democracy in Cameroon. Over the course of two days, participants received capacity-building training on the key issues relating to the electoral process and civic education.

The aim of this training is to enable different social groups, particularly the most vulnerable, to better understand their civic rights and duties, as well as the mechanisms for participating in elections. The programme also focused on the fundamental principles of active and responsible citizenship, which are essential for the consolidation of democracy.

The various modules covered included the legal framework for elections in Cameroon, electoral procedures, civic education techniques, conflict prevention and the promotion of a peaceful, transparent and inclusive electoral environment.
Through this initiative, ELECAM, UN Women and their partners aim to encourage greater involvement of groups that are often under-represented in the country’s political and electoral life. The aim is to ensure that every citizen, regardless of gender, age or social background, has the necessary means to participate fully in the democratic process.

Beyond the training provided, this meeting served as a genuine forum for discussion and the sharing of experiences amongst participants, thereby helping to strengthen social cohesion and embed a culture of democracy within communities.
