Enrollment on electoral registers of Cameroonians living in the diaspora

Elections Cameroon continues to take measures to ensure that Cameroonians living abroad participate in the electoral process. It is for this reason that we work in collaboration with 45 Cameroonian diplomatic missions abroad, which serve as Focal points for Cameroonians in the diaspora on electoral issues. These Focal Points are designated staff of the diplomatic representations, who carry out electoral sensitisation and education within the Cameroonian communities living in their country of assignment. Equipped with biometric voter registration kits, these Focal Points also serve as kit operators, and together with joint commission members in the host country, they carry out operations for the revision of electoral registers.
As stipulated in the Electoral Code, Section 45, every Cameroonian citizen who has reached the age of 20 years, and is free from all cases of disqualification provided for by the law, is entitled to be an elector. In order for Cameroonians living abroad to be entered on the electoral registers, they thus need to show proof of their Cameroonian nationality and age. It is for this reason that the Director General of Elections, Dr Essoussè Erik, signed a Decision, precising that a potential elector is required to present the following documents to the joint commission in charge of revision of electoral registers:
• Cameroonian Passport
• Residence permit
• Consular card
