Board Chair appraises ELECAM/United Nations Technical Assistance Project for the 2025-2027

The Chairperson of the Electoral Board, Dr ENOW Abrams Egbe has made an evaluation of the on ongoing ELECAM/United Nations Technical Assistance Project for the 2025-2027 electoral cycle in Cameroon. Speaking during the 2025 Second Ordinary Session of the Electoral Board on Saturday, 29th June 2025, Dr ENOW Abrams disclosed that three successful trainings have already been organized under this project.

According to him, the first workshop that trained trainers held in Ebolowa from the 26th-30th of May 2025. This was aimed at ameliorating the skills of Regional Delegates and other supervisory staff on the foundations and guiding principles of electoral administration and integrity. The second workshop with UN Women took place in Mbalmayo from the 12th-14th of June 2025. This focused on reinforcing the capacity of women in line with ELECAM’s policy of inclusiveness, accessibility and taking into consideration the participation of women in the electoral process.

While the third was the multi-stakeholder consultation meeting organized at Mbankomo from the 25th-26th of June 2025. Dr ENOW Abrams, added that the aim was to encourage continuous and peaceful dialogue between stakeholders of electoral process before, during and after the elections, and to support inclusiveness in the electoral process. It should be noted that Elections Cameroon and the UN systems had on 9th May 2025 launched a project baptised, ELECAM/United Nations technical assistance project for the 2025-2027 electoral cycle.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Board also disclosed another key achievement of ELECAM at the international scene. He explained that ELECAM recently participated during the Constitutive General Assembly of the ROGEAC (Réseau des organes de gestion électorale en Afrique centrale) which held in Bujumbura, Burundi from May 29th-30th 2025. Elections Cameroon was elected to the position of Treasurer General, a function that will be assumed by one of the members of the Electoral Board, Mr Belle AMOUGOU Dieudonné, who accompanied ELECAMs delegation to the event.

While evaluating the ongoing annual revision of electoral registers, Dr ENOW Abrams revealed that some 373,588 (three hundred and seventy-three thousand five hundred and eighty-eight) new voters have been registered from the 2nd of January to the 26th of June 2025. Bringing the provisional number of registered voters to 8,219,210 (eight million two hundred and nineteen thousand two hundred and ten), pending cleaning of the said registers as stated in the electoral code. He also expressed satisfaction with the state of preparation ahead of the Presidential Elections after evaluating the state of material and staff on the field. The Chairperson of the Electoral Board also used this session to welcome the newly appointed member of the Electoral Board, Rev. Father BELL Mathias Stephane. The clergy who was attending an Ordinary Session of the Electoral Board for the first times was appointed on 19th May 2015. He took an oath before the Constitutional Council on the 26th of June 2025. Before his appointment, Rev. Father BELL Mathias Stephane headed the Multimedia Centre of the Episcopal Conference, served as Vatican Radio correspondent, and also served at the National Communication Council, Father Bell brings to the Electoral Board strong moral integrity, deep communication expertise, and a firm grasp of governance and dialogue.
